Solution Focused Mentoring

Solution focused mentoring

Here at Chance UK we work in a solution focused way. This means we train our mentors to empower the children to find their own practical solutions to their behavioural difficulties. Our programme managers have been trained in solution focused practice and have learnt to adapt the therapy’s techniques to a mentoring situation. By finding a child’s strengths and focusing on positive practical solutions to inappropriate conduct, we encourage him/her to develop positive social behaviour. In this way the child becomes better able to deal with situations that in the past may have triggered his/her poor behaviour.

‘Sophia is kind and lovely and precious. But she’s also very strict if I did something wrong. She wouldn’t let me be bad. We’d talk about why I got angry. And she said if I felt it was going to happen again I had to stop and count to ten and then it would stop. And she was right. I tried it at school and at home.’
