Training content
Day 1
We explain how the mentoring programme works and features exercises designed to help you understand the role of a mentor in greater detail.
Day 2
We elaborate on the principles and techniques of the solution focused approach, which empowers children to grow in confidence, recognise their strengths, and find their own solutions to problems, rather than focusing on how their problems came about.
Day 3
Trainers teach trainees how to work in a safe and boundaried way with our children, as well as how to keep themselves safe on mentoring sessions.
Assessment
Trainees are assessed during training for their suitability to become mentors, as well as at an individual interview, which takes place after the training.
If you are successful after interview, and subject to paperwork, you may then be matched with a child and become a Chance UK mentor.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of our training programme, feel free to contact Matt Collins, Training Officer at Chance UK, on 020 7281 5858 ext 214, or via email at Daniel.Moir@chanceuk.com.
‘Mentoring keeps me grounded. It makes me look at my own life and appreciate what I have. Mentoring is a big commitment and shouldn’t be taken lightly. On those days when it’s cold and you just want to stay in bed on a Saturday morning, I admit, it is a struggle; however, the joy and fulfilment you get from spending time with your mentee is quite amazing and worth every minute.’
