Legging it for Chance UK

July 2015

Chance UK has been privileged to have lots of lovely people running their socks off for us recently. Luke Burrage, one of our mentors, ran the Edinburgh Marathon for us and raised a whopping £1,000. Luke was inspired to raise money for Chance UK after his year of mentoring. He helped a 7 year old boy in Islington increase his self esteem, courage and perseverance through weekly sessions. This was Luke’s fifth marathon and he completed it in an absolutely amazing 3 hours 39 mins.

Heather Wilson, another Chance UK mentor, ran the Wimbledon Summer Breeze Half Marathon for Chance UK. Heather ran an extremely speedy 1 hour 38 mins. and won the women’s race. Heather raised £380 for Chance UK. Heather was inspired to run for Chance UK after mentoring an 8 year old girl in Lambeth. Heather helped her child tackle her fears by climbing to the top of the Monument, as well as improving her focus and attention through creative activities.

The Chance UK staff team ran the Hackney Half Marathon and raised a brilliant £1,620. A team of four staff and one trustee were inspired to run the Hackney Half after seeing many, many children tackle challenges and goals with their mentors this year. It was the first half marathon for many of the team and they all loved it. Well done to Aimee, Nyree, Chris, Ruth and Caroline.Luke running the Edinburgh Marathon

Chance UK runs the Hackney Half Marathon

March 2015

Chance UK have gathered together a team of staff and trustees to run the Hackney Half Marathon on 10th May. A couple of the group have completed races like this before, however for the rest of us, this is a very new challenge. Our training is going well, although we do now have a broken toe amongst the group (non-running related injury).

Part of what we do at Chance UK is support children with low confidence to set and achieve their own personal goals with the help of their mentors; so we thought we should help set an example and challenge ourselves to achieve this goal.

All money raised will go towards the direct work we do with children in London. If you would like to sponsor us, we would love your support. Here’s the link to our page:

Safer Internet Day

February 2015

February 10th was Safer Internet Day. This was a global event being celebrated in over one hundred countries organised by the UK Safer Internet Centre.

Chance UK is doing a lot of work around educating our children and parents on how to keep safe online. It is of huge importance to us to make sure our children learn how positive the internet and technology can be. We all know the dangers that can present, so keeping awareness and education high is paramount.

Check out a poster one of our children (aged 10) designed on how to keep safe online:

CIBC raises funds for Chance UK on their annual Miracle Day

December 2014

On Wednesday 3rd December Chance UK was excited to be one of the charities that CIBC, one of the world’s leading global financial institutions, raised money for during their annual CIBC Miracle Day. CIBC sales and trading professionals donate their fees and commissions from the trading day to three charities each year (this year the charities are Chance UK, React and The Sick Children’s Trust).

Some of the Chance UK team spent a fun day at the CIBC London office on what was the 30th anniversary of the CIBC Miracle Day. Celebrities became traders for the day, helping increase trading activity and CIBC employees and children participated, making it one of the busiest trading days of the year.

A proud tradition for CIBC since 1984, CIBC Miracle Day has raised £138 million to help children in need around the globe. To learn more visit:
